This tag is currently categorized as a song tag but that is not how I understand the purpose of the tag, so I wanted to ask for clarification. How I see it, this tag describes a nature of the work rather than referring to one song. It signifies that the creator opted to have a song created for the work rather than the work using an existing song as a base. Thus, I think it should be classified as a meta tag.
Shouldn't the "original song" tag be categorized as meta?

Will this mean that tags like self-source and multisource would be categorized as source tags?

Self-source we maybe should re-categorize... I think multisource should remain a meta tag though, as we would like to encourage as many sources being tagged as possible, and it helps denote the sources are of unrelated origins
Categorizing it as a song tag is intentional, as there will soon be guidelines in place that every work is expected to have at least one creator, source, and song tag defined. Defining a song tag for every possible original song is not helpful as it clutters the tag space with many single use tags. A separate song tag should only be created if multiple works emerge that use the same original song of a prior work.
This can be considered analogous to Danbooru's "original" tag, which is categorized as a copyright tag. https://danbooru.donmai.us/wiki_pages/original
