Welcome to the otoDB: the otomad/ytpmv database Summer!
Here are some highlights from this version:
Open Registration
Registration is now fully open to the public! Invites are no longer required. We're excited to welcome new contributors and hope we can help empower your efforts in cataloguing the world of 音MAD and YTPMV!
Search improvements
Searching in both works and songs now has a full set of query options based on our own defined search syntax! Some examples can be seen on the work search page, as well as a (work in progress) documentation here: https://otodb.net/wiki/search_syntax
This syntax is mostly stable, but we do expect to be making changes and improvements to it over time. Your feedback, like many other features, can also help shape this -- please feel free to make suggestions in the Feature Requests forum!
Wiki pages for works
Works can now have wiki articles attached to them. We expect this to be helpful for recording information about larger-scale works, or providing information or context about works that is otherwise difficult to represent in other formats.
A wiki page for a work can be created by accessing the Edit tab on the work page, where a Wiki page section can then be filled in. The wiki text will be displayed on the main work page beneath its tags.
YTPMV Metadata Archive
Community member @FinnOtaku has given us permission to host an onsite version of his YTPMV Metadata Archive, an archive of metadata made publicly available ~2019, with metadata from not only YouTube but many other platforms, for over 2,000,000 URLs.
Access it here (login required): https://otodb.net/YTPMV_Database
We hope this resource will assist the community at large to better index works on otoDB, and again thank @FinnOtaku for the initial creation of this and allowing us to host it for everyone!
Short links and embed links
We now support several new URL formats for sharing works.
Short links
URLs in the format of https://otodb.net/db{id} will redirect to https://otodb.net/work/{id}.
Example: https://otodb.net/db1
Embed links
URLs in the format of https://otodb.net/work/{id}/embed will embed on social networking services such as Discord, picking the earliest available upload by the author, followed by reuploads (basically, the same logic used for the list of uploads on a work page). Opening these pages in a web browser will redirect to the work page.
Example: https://otodb.net/work/1/embed
This also works with short URLs like this: https://otodb.net/db1/embed
Instead the platform being automatically selected, you can also specify a platform: https://otodb.net/work/1/bilibili
And again, with short URLs like this: https://otodb.net/db1/niconico
These URLs will also be embedded with "URL fixer" services as needed, so videos on platforms such as Niconico and Bilibili can embed a video player directly!
Video playback preferences
A couple new settings have been added to the User Settings page regarding the preferred playback platform for video embeds.
- Preferred video playback platform
- Prefer author uploads
Batch relation editor
The relation editor for works and songs now supports selecting and modifying multiple items at once. This also supports click-drag selections.
