Should "that... thing" be deprecated?

I wanted to open a dialogue about if the that... thing tag should be Deprecated. The purpose of the tag on NND seems inconsistent and contested, and checking the Nicopedia article, the content that could be included under the tag seems highly variable as well. What this means for otoDB is that the tag doesn't really fill any particular role, at least that I can see. Any chance of streamlining the tag's parameters to fix this feels unattainable.

I feel it would be better off being deprecated; however, given it's storied history on NND, I would not do this without getting people's thoughts first. Is there a purpose the tag fills for the site that I'm not seeing? And is there a way to give the tag a set of rules so it can be applied to works independently of it just being in the tags for a work on NND?
