Does Platinum Disco (E-Side of YTPMV) deserve its own tag?

I understand that this excerpt from E-Side of YTPMV is a fad now and several standalone videos exist that only cover this song from the medley. However, I think it might be redundant since the medley and the song (Platinum Disco) already exist. Currently, the norm is to tag works that use an excerpt from a medley with the medley and the song separately. I believe this is not mentioned in the Editing Guidelines, but it is just a pattern I see. I would like to hear other's thoughts on this.
A similar question can be asked for Chilled Series.
My current feeling is that an excerpt of a single song from a medley shouldn't need to have its own tag. Chilled Series is a bit unique in that it's actually two songs, and it has been given a unique name that is separate from the songs.
On the other hand, I do feel that works featuring this remix do have a very recognizable style that is not present with works featuring the regular version of the song. While searching for Platinum Disco and E-Side of YTPMV together would likely present most works related to this fad, I'd say this style is established enough that having some tag to set these works apart from both regular Platinum Disco videos as well as unrelated E-Side videos that may happen to cover Platinum Disco would help make them more easily searchable.
Maybe there should be a meta tag for this since it is becoming so prevalent as a fad. That would track with the way meta tags have been used in the past. It would make it easier to search for, but not set a president for medley parts getting their own song tags. Same would apply to the chilled series.
Yeah, in this case a dedicated tag for the medley snippet wouldn't still automatically be same as a part of this fad, so a Meta tag would be the better option to set this fad apart properly. And yeah I'd say this applies to Chilled as well.
You're both right that Meta tag seems more appropriate than a Song tag for both this and Chilled Series in this circumstance. If we do not remove this particular tag, I am OK to keep it as Meta. But, I am concerned this will flood the Meta tag category for its intended purpose. We've not exactly defined this rigidly yet, so the current definition even as it stands now in the editing guidelines is fairly loose and accommodates this, but categorizing this as Meta doesn't feel correct to me. Meta is more intended as purely a descriptor of the work, in a way that is not strongly attached to the actual audible and/or visual contents of the work. Because this is a song that is contained within a work it doesn't feel right to me to categorize it as Meta to me.
There has been past discussion to have a "Series" tag category or something akin to that. I'm not sure if that is the correct approach either, but this scenario could be an argument for that.
For now, Meta I also feel is the correct choice here.
If we're thinking of justifications for adding an entirely new tag category to address these kind of cases, then I can provide some more examples. Like in cases of Ray of Hope, Meltdown, Canon and Shuric Scan, we have subsets of works where the inspirations can be fairly obviously tied to very specific works:
- Ray of Hope: 180 BPM, multisource, rapid source switch
- Meltdown: starting around pre-chorus, loop of the sourced character spinning, chorus sung by the sourced character
- Canon: visual and audio composition
- Shuric Scan: literally veg replacing a pre-existing project
The Meltdown example offers the approach to just label videos that are inspired by it with a Respect relation, while the Canon example uses the Meta tag Suzukanon to signify the inspired works (actual tag used by some of these works, not made for this database). Though if we (for whatever ungodly reason) were to catalogue Veg replaced Shuric Scan in earnest, the Respect relation approach would obviously result in very clogged relation charts, so using a tag for this kind of case would make more sense. And if the Meta category doesn't seem sensible for that, a whole new category that can help distinguishing between these kind of subsets would help categorizing these videos even more cleanly.
