"You either die a YTPMVer... or you live long enough to see yourself become a poop."
This submission for #rsvideojam6 is imitating the one and only @JZillah_ ! Their SpongeMixes and Rhythm Heaven collab entries (back in the day) were the biggest reason for me to get into watching YTPMVs. I used a lot of the same sources from the SpongeMixes as well as a special source for the voice lines ;)
I'm still really far skill-wise from making a decent no BGM track (and will probably not make another for a while), but this taught me a lot about source processing and how to make things sound "good"... as well as how to use Vegas to make 3D shapes!
(below is just specifics for whoever is curious... not needed for the jam!)
Matching their style taught me a lot about source processing and making no BGM videos (which I'm not ready for lol). I used chorus and reverb to make everything feel more "full" and to fill the gaps where I could. A small amount of compression also seemed to help here. Using some panning and phasing (while not strictly a Zillah thing) to "open" the sound stage really helped things feel less cluttered when I felt like I had too much going on (towards the end).
I tried to use a lot of the same sources as the SpongeMixes, and of the same BGM techniques like the scrolling checkerboard from the RH collab and 3D shapes (although I gave up on doing the columns like in Second Reality... I still don't know how to do it!).
